156TH CARD ~ SINGAPORE

RECEIVED FROM POSTCROSSING

Sent by  Stanic from Singapore
Traveled  14,763 km

Photo of:
The Merlion
"The Merlion symbol of Singapore, guarding the waterfront"

What an interesting card! I think this statue is super cool. I need to do some research to see if it is as big as it looks! According to what I have read so far there are many Merlion statues in Singapore .
The fish body comes from Singapores  ancient name back when it was a fishing village "Temasek"   "sea town". The lion head represents Singapore's original name "Singapura" meaning "lion city".
Neat!

155TH CARD ~ NEW ZEALAND

PRIVATE CARD

Sent by Glen (a Ravelry friend!)

Photo of: Lake Taupo, New Zealand

I received a BEAUTIFUL greeting card and a BUNDLE of post cards from Glen through a Ravelry group I am in called "Some Love in the Mail". Although all of the cards she sent me are beautiful I choose this one to add to the site because it was favorite! The sheep on the front remind me of the Ravelry connection, which of course makes me think of yarn, and then knitting, which I love even more then I love post cards!

154TH CARD ~ POLAND

RECEIVED FROM POSTCROSSING

Sent by Ania from Poland
Traveled  5,922 km

Polish Architecture and art.

I think this card is lovely!
I love the art work on this card is so pretty.
The card itself does not say anything about what the buildings pictured are or exactly where they are, but Ania writes that they are pictures from old towns.
Really beautiful!
The colours on this card remind of spring, which is slowly making its way here in Nova Scotia!

153RD CARD ~ LATVIA

PRIVATE CARD

Sent by Christine from  Riga, Latvia

Photo of:

"Art Nouveau style building on Elizabetes Street"

This beautiful card is my very first from Latvia! So excited about that!
Christine was nice enough to send this card to me as a thank you for a card I sent her.
I really do love it.
The building is just beautiful. I love the colour blue against the white stone.
The two faces carved at the top of the building are amazing!
This building is now a World Heritage site!

Kristine included some fun facts about Latvia on the back of the card;

"We don't have gold and diamond mines, but we have amber and wood literally everywhere"

"The highest point in Latvia is a 312m hill named Gaiziņkalns"

" (the story goes that) The first decorated Christmas tree comes from Latvia- by Martin Luther in 1510"

Such a nice touch!

152ND CARD ~ GERMANY

PRIVATE CARD

Sent by the lovely Kirstin from Hannover,  Germany

Photo of:

VINTAGE AD CARD~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!

and yes, I am screaming.

Ok.
we were just through the whole " I spent five years studying history" thing,  just in time for Kirstin (the BEST post card pal in the whole world!) to send me this little gem.

Its a vinatge ad card of a sea voyage.
I speacialized in Marine History.

So mix that with my love for vintage advertising and I am pretty much in some sort of postcard/history/vintage advertising utopia.

And my husband thinks I'm hard to please.

151ST CARD ~ GERMANY

Photo of:
Trier, Germany

Ok.
I love this card.
Look at it.
Look at it.

It may not come to a shock to those of you who might actually read this blog (if any do) but I have a University degree in History. .. yeah ..."surprise".
It really is the final piece to my personal puzzle of lameness.

Anyway- the fact that I choose spent 5 years of my life in a old and smelly library studying old and smelly books about old and smelly dead people should be enough to explain why I love this card.

I mean come on.
Look at it.

150TH CARD ~ YEMAN

PRIVATE CARD

Sent by Karina from Yeman

Photo of:  Shibam Hadramout, Yeman

A BRAND NEW COUNTRY!!!

It is SO nice when people are nice.
This card was sent as a favour to me - I asked Karina if she would send me a card from Yeman as I did not have any cards from this country (I sent her a card via postcrossing) - and she sent me one even though she did not have to! Isn't that just wonderful? I hope she knows how much something like that truly means to me.
It is fair to say that I would not have half of my cards if it was not for the kindness of people like Karina.
Just beautiful!
Not to mention the card- which I am in LOVE with.
So different than where I am from!
So beautiful!
The walled city is amazing!
I posted a link above!
Hurrah for learning!
(I'm excited)

I really do like animal cards! Though lets face it, I love all cards.
It is fun to get something differnt though and I do not have may animal cards in my collection.

I actually have had an influx of cards over the last three days- 5 or 6 cards? I think?
Very exciting to find a bundle of them in my mail box.
Also all of the cards I have sent out on postcrossing have arrived to thier destination!
So to celebrate I think I may send some more cards out- also it is a beautiful day to walk down to the post office!
