184TH CARD ~ CANADA

Private Card

from~
my Friend Gilles!!!
sent while on vacation in Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Photo of: Tiger from the Calgary Zoo (Alberta, Canada)

"The Calgary Zoo's tiger habitat is home to four Siberian (Amur) Tigers: Kita, Katja, Vitali and Baikal.  The Amur tiger is the largest in the world. They are an endangered species, with only an estimated 450 left in the world"

This was actually the very first piece of mail I got at my new apartment (we moved in September).

At that time Gilles was away on a trip to Calgary- though, I think he went just to get out of helping us move!
Lucky Gilles got to go to  Calgary Zoo  and while he was there he bought me this fantastic card! Unfortunately he didn't actually get to see the tigers as they were not out when he was there.

I was so happy he thought of me and I was thrilled to get mail so soon at my new home!

Thanks Gilles!

181ST CARD ~ CANADA

 Private Card

Sent by~
My Mom!!
While on vacation in Little Sands , Prince Edward Island (Canada)

This card shows a collection of different scenes from P.E.I (Prince Edward Island). My mom, dad and younger brother went there for a short vacation over the summer.
I have been here many times as it is a very short drive from Nova Scotia.
I have always loved PEI - it is a beautiful place to visit  and a great place just to 'unwind' for a few days. It has some lovely beaches.
I was really pleased to get this card simply because it is from my Mom, and it is the only card I have from her (so far)!
This card is a really sweet reminder of family vacations long ago!

180TH CARD ~ BRUNEI

PRIVATE CARD

Sent by:  Melanie
From: Brunei

Photo of:  Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque - Brunei Darussalam
"Panoramic view of Bandar Seri Begawan, regally guarded by the exquisite Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque"

Is this my first card from Brunei? Is that how you know your starting to amas way to many post cards? Can one HAVE too many postcards. I don't think so. I also think that this is in fact my very first card from Brunei!
Hurrah! for a new country!
What a magnificent mosque! It is really stunning. These are the types of places I would love to see in person.
For now, I guess I will have to be satisfied with "traveling through the photographs". I'm fine with that!

I really want to thank Melanie for swapping cards with me, this card truly is such a treat!

179TH CARD ~ GERMANY

PRIVATE CARD

Sent by the lovely Kirstin from Hannover, Germany

Photo of: Hiddensee Island, Germany

A beautiful map card sent by Kirstin while on holiday with her son.
I love the little images of the lighthouses and ships on this card.
One day I will have my own study/library/craft room and I will be able to frame all of my favorite post cards- maybe I will cover a whole wall in them! I think that would actually look quite neat! If that ever happens I will defiantly frame this one!

I always feel a little (well very) ignorant whenever I get a post card from a place I am not entirely sure where it is. That's what happened with this one. I honestly had to look it up. Now I know all about Hiddensee Island! A willingness to learn is the best cure for ignorance. Being from Nova Scotia I know what its like to have some people have no idea where you are from. I think because of that I have kind of made it my silent mission to try and know as much as I can about the world around me.

Thanks Kirstin for teaching me about Hiddensee Island and thanks again for another wonderful card

This looks like such an interesting place to visit.

178TH CARD ~ ENGLAND

PRIVATE CARD

Another lovely card from  my friend Sarah!
From England

Photo of: Vintage Ad- Schweppes Pin-Up Series (A)
From an original in the Robert Opie Collection at the Museum of Advertising & Packaging, Gloucester.

We come back from my longer then intended hiatus with this fantastic card from the lovely Sarah (my lovely pen pal in England)! This card is nothing short of spectacular. I love every thing about it. The colour, the beautiful woman, and especially the print!

" A Schweppicure is a kind of epicure who expects the presence of Schewppervescence"

Wonderful!

Check out this link the Schweppes website- http://www.schweppes.com.au/pages/pin-up-girls
It features a lot of the original "Schweppes Pin-Up Girl" art work!
I am in love!

Thanks Sarah- you always send me some of the most interesting cards!

Will be back up and running soon!

What a crazy summer/early fall this has been!
I have been busy with a brand new job as well as moving and setting up our new apartment- so pretty much every one of my hobbies has suffered. I was really surprised how much a move can disrupt your routine! August was a write off because I not only started a brand new job but had to spend pretty much all my spare time planning and organizing to move in September. Then when we finally did move last month all my time was spent trying to organize and unpack.
Well, now it's October and I have no more excuses!
I'm pretty much back on track now (life wise) and I hope to have my new cards up and posted within the week.
I hope someone out there is still interested!  :)

The Halifax Explosion of December 6, 1927 leveled many houses in the north end of the city. And yer, despite this incredible devastation, the smiles on the faces of these children tell us that life went on.

Another lovely card from Erin.
This photo was taken not far from my new apartment.
The Halifax Explosion was one of the biggest (accidental) man made explosions in history.
2000 peopl lost there lives and countless more were ruined.

PRIVATE CARD

Another lovely card sent by my friend Louise! :) :) :) :)  from Kirkcaldy, Scotland

Photo of:
Inchcolm Abbey, Inchcolm, Firth of Fourth, Scotland

Lovely!
This card was extra exciting for me.
Not only because it came from Lousie- and that is has a castle on it, but because of what she told me about. A while ago Louise sent me a book called  Kidnapped by RL. Stevenson- She mentioned on the card that on there way home from her visit to Incholm Abbey- they stopped at Hawes Inn for lunch, which was an Inn mentioned in Kidnapped! I thought that was rather neat. Although I really shouldn't be surprised. Louise always has something intresting to tell me!

Smashing!

170TH CARD ~ FRANCE

PRIVATE CARD

A pretty card sent by friends of mine (Tim and Cassie)  on there trip to Paris, France last month.

I think its so funny when you get cards from your friends on vacation- because they almost always arrive after they have returned home. Of course that doesn't make them any less great- it just gives me an extra little smile!

~Super touched that you guys thought of all of us on your trip! Thank you!

167TH & 168TH CARD ~ NEW ZEALAND

PRIVATE CARD
Sent by Jayne from Christchurch, New Zealand

Photo of: New Zealand (1930's Screen Print)
My dear friend Jayne sent me two more in a series of postcards I have fallen madly in love with (see the first one she sent me here). I think these cards are fantastic. I seriously plan to frame all three and hang them in my new kitchen...or maybe the hall. They are bigger then regular cards at approximately 5'x7'- so I think they will look rather sharp on display. Although I know this will be opening myself up to be asked by every new person who visits "when I was in New Zealand?..." ...then I'll get that look I get when I try to explain that I not only do I collect postcards, but I keep a blog about them. Oh well. I never once aimed to be 'normal'

~Thanks Jayne! xxoo

I just love this style of art work-its just so beautiful!
I love the deep colours and the simplicity of the natural beauty of this flower.
I'm always excited when I ger a card from China- they are some of the prettiest and most intresting in my collection.

I have no excuse....

I really don't.
Really what it comes down to is the simple fact that I have been a lazy lazerson.
BUT - I'm trying...well...I'm trying to try.
It's just been so nice outside...and ...Iv'e been knitting a lot...
and...well....here we are.
This shouldn't be a chore because I love this...I just have to dig myself out from under this pile!

What a grand thought, and something I also try to live by.

I'm Back!

Hello!
Sorry for the month long hiatis! I was away for just over two weeks....and then I got a little distracted with life and such. You know how it is.
It has been a little slow postcard wise, but I do have a few to post, so look for them in a couple of days.
I havn't sent any cards in Postcrossing for a bit, but I plan to soon (need more international stamps!) so that should mean more postcards coming in soon!
My husband and I are moving in a couple of months so I am a little hesitant to send out to many cards- since I wont be at this address too much longer and I would hate for any return mail to get lost.
Stay tuned!

156TH CARD ~ SINGAPORE

RECEIVED FROM POSTCROSSING

Sent by  Stanic from Singapore
Traveled  14,763 km

Photo of:
The Merlion
"The Merlion symbol of Singapore, guarding the waterfront"

What an interesting card! I think this statue is super cool. I need to do some research to see if it is as big as it looks! According to what I have read so far there are many Merlion statues in Singapore .
The fish body comes from Singapores  ancient name back when it was a fishing village "Temasek"   "sea town". The lion head represents Singapore's original name "Singapura" meaning "lion city".
Neat!

PRIVATE CARD

Sent by Glen (a Ravelry friend!)

Photo of: Lake Taupo, New Zealand

I received a BEAUTIFUL greeting card and a BUNDLE of post cards from Glen through a Ravelry group I am in called "Some Love in the Mail". Although all of the cards she sent me are beautiful I choose this one to add to the site because it was favorite! The sheep on the front remind me of the Ravelry connection, which of course makes me think of yarn, and then knitting, which I love even more then I love post cards!

Sent by Ania from Poland
Traveled  5,922 km

I love the art work on this card is so pretty.
The card itself does not say anything about what the buildings pictured are or exactly where they are, but Ania writes that they are pictures from old towns.
Really beautiful!
The colours on this card remind of spring, which is slowly making its way here in Nova Scotia!

153RD CARD ~ LATVIA

PRIVATE CARD

Sent by Christine from  Riga, Latvia

Photo of:

"Art Nouveau style building on Elizabetes Street"

This beautiful card is my very first from Latvia! So excited about that!
Christine was nice enough to send this card to me as a thank you for a card I sent her.
I really do love it.
The building is just beautiful. I love the colour blue against the white stone.
The two faces carved at the top of the building are amazing!
This building is now a World Heritage site!

Kristine included some fun facts about Latvia on the back of the card;

"We don't have gold and diamond mines, but we have amber and wood literally everywhere"

"The highest point in Latvia is a 312m hill named Gaiziņkalns"

" (the story goes that) The first decorated Christmas tree comes from Latvia- by Martin Luther in 1510"

Such a nice touch!

152ND CARD ~ GERMANY

PRIVATE CARD

Sent by the lovely Kirstin from Hannover,  Germany

Photo of:

VINTAGE AD CARD~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!

and yes, I am screaming.

Ok.
we were just through the whole " I spent five years studying history" thing,  just in time for Kirstin (the BEST post card pal in the whole world!) to send me this little gem.

Its a vinatge ad card of a sea voyage.
I speacialized in Marine History.

So mix that with my love for vintage advertising and I am pretty much in some sort of postcard/history/vintage advertising utopia.

And my husband thinks I'm hard to please.

151ST CARD ~ GERMANY

RECEIVED FROM POSTCROSSING

Sent by Zhenya from Germany
Traveled 5,152 km

Photo of:
Trier, Germany

Ok.
I love this card.
Look at it.
Look at it.

It may not come to a shock to those of you who might actually read this blog (if any do) but I have a University degree in History. .. yeah ..."surprise".
It really is the final piece to my personal puzzle of lameness.

Anyway- the fact that I choose spent 5 years of my life in a old and smelly library studying old and smelly books about old and smelly dead people should be enough to explain why I love this card.

I mean come on.
Look at it.

150TH CARD ~ YEMAN

PRIVATE CARD

Sent by Karina from Yeman

Photo of:  Shibam Hadramout, Yeman

A BRAND NEW COUNTRY!!!

It is SO nice when people are nice.
This card was sent as a favour to me - I asked Karina if she would send me a card from Yeman as I did not have any cards from this country (I sent her a card via postcrossing) - and she sent me one even though she did not have to! Isn't that just wonderful? I hope she knows how much something like that truly means to me.
It is fair to say that I would not have half of my cards if it was not for the kindness of people like Karina.
Just beautiful!
Not to mention the card- which I am in LOVE with.
So different than where I am from!
So beautiful!
The walled city is amazing!
I posted a link above!
Hurrah for learning!

I really do like animal cards! Though lets face it, I love all cards.
It is fun to get something differnt though and I do not have may animal cards in my collection.

I actually have had an influx of cards over the last three days- 5 or 6 cards? I think?
Very exciting to find a bundle of them in my mail box.
Also all of the cards I have sent out on postcrossing have arrived to thier destination!
So to celebrate I think I may send some more cards out- also it is a beautiful day to walk down to the post office!
